Kids in 1952 and 1960

This morning I came across these super-cool class photos, which were taken in 1952, when the kids first began school and in 1960, when the much older kids became teenagers. Each photo represents the same group of students at equally pivotal times in American history. The first marks the first year of the Baby Boom era, while the second seems to teeter "on the edge of" the revolutionary 60s.

  I've been trying to match up the younger children with their older selves. Can you match them all? Click here and here to view the full-size images. (Hint: A few of them look exactly the same and a couple of them are sitting in the same spot).

I want to go to there: Outdoor-indoor spaces

I've recently taken a liking to the idea of incorporating nature into one's living space. It's such a peaceful, inviting concept, and it's so easy to be done in an innovating and modern way. I'd just love to wake up to the feeling of cool, damp air and the smell of pine and spruce in this quaint cabin in Finland. And can you imagine napping in this glass lake house (complete with a turntable, of course!)?  Just think how refreshing it would be to cool off in a sparkling infinity pool as you reach out an feel the fronds of a nearby palm tree!

First day of summer

Yippee!! Today is the first official day of summer!!  I can't wait to eat refreshing pasta salad (and sip on grapefruit lemonade!), spend afternoons roller-skating in the park, and wear breezy maxi skirts and sundresses. Do you have any plans for the day? What about for the season?

Modern 30s shoes

Check out these incredibly modern and forward-thinking shoes by esteemed French shoe designer Steven Armand. It's incredible to think that Armand had such an innovative outlook and design aesthetic when these heels were created in 1939! Can't you see these shoes gracing the pages of today's Vogue or Harper's Bazaar?

Engagement Session: Marnell & Matt

I came across these engagement photos last week and I just couldn't help but show them to you all. Marnel is a painter, Matthew loves pottery and they met as students at Howard University in Washington D.C. Don't they look like such a fun, dapper couple? What makes them even cooler is they love running and even take salsa lessons!

Painting

I much prefer sketching and sculpting to painting, but painting is still such a wonderful creative outlet. We even have a few of my old paintings hanging in our house. Do you paint? What about sketch? Sculpt?

Owl jewelry

Owls are such cheeky creatures, which is why I love seeing them, or any animal for that matter, memorialized in jewelry. I recently bought these Ananta Earrings from Anthropologie and they ever so slightly give of the impression of tiny, shimmering snakes cascading down your ear. Have a stylin' weekend

It's just my dad and I again this weekend, so we might go see one of his friend's exhibits at a local art museum. Maybe later I can convince Al to go shopping with me so I can pick up a daintily fluted maxi skirt or maybe something silken with detailed cut-out shoulders. What's on your weekend agenda?

Late day

 I had a late start today (didn't get up 'til 12:45) and now my desktop is acting up and will only let me follow certain blogs. Grr. But, it's supposed to rain today, which always cheers me up. I like to think of it as cuddle weather. How's your day so far?

Print mixing

I really love mixing prints, which is why I think Ece Sükan looks so fun in this photo. The flounce of her skirt and sheerness of her blouse is perfectly balanced by the neutral tones of the prints and her accessories. Plus, I love the look of her round shades peeking out from behind her wavy hair.

Gap teeth

I think having a gap between your teeth is sort of charming and quirky. There's just something imperfectly authentic about a pretty woman's diastema. Plus, depending on who you ask, gapped teeth are taken as a sign of luck, lechery or wanderlust!

Tattoo People

 I love to sculpt and I always appreciate the intricacy that goes along with creating a beautiful sculpture. I think that's why I so greatly admire the work of tattoo artists. I would never get a tattoo myself, but there's something about the detail of a really great tattoo that I think makes tattooers such meritorious members of the art community. What do you think of these tattoos? Do you have any? Would you ever get any?
