Can you roller-skate?

image via pinterest

I remember learning how to roller skate when I was little. We used to have a long driveway that was pretty steep, and it led to a nice, open parking patio that was surrounded by grass. My sister and I would start halfway up the driveway (we were scared we would fall if we started any higher!), and we'd skate down the driveway (going really fast), and fall, laughing, into the grass.

Do you know how to roller skate? Do you have any childhood memories of rollerskating?

Also: Disco era hot shorts to skate in!

First day of spring!

What are you doing on this pleasant day? Having a picnic in the park? Taking a nap in a hammock? Visiting a butterfly sanctuary? Do tell!

First day of autumn

Today is the first day of autumn, which is my absolute favorite season. Looking forward to calm, breezy mornings (and crisp, cool nights), the smell of cinnamo and sweaters worn with skinny cords.

What are you looking forward to this fall?

I'm back! + Feels like fall...

It's been too long, y'all. It's been way too long...

School has been KICKING MY BUTT lately! And I'm so bummed that I haven't been blogging as often as usual. But, I'm back! And what better way to welcome myself back than by talking about fall??

Autumn is, by far, my favorite season. There's colorful foliage, crisp, cool air, denim jackets and the color burgundy...basically, all that's right with the world! I'm so looking forward wearing chic sweaters with brown leather boots, and knit dresses with my leopard print flats.

What are you looking forward to most this fall? It's such a romantic season, don't you think?

Hammocks

Have you ever lain in a hammock? I'd be more than content if I could spend lazy afternoons relaxing in one of these hammocks. They're perfect for setting up in gardens, on porches or even in living rooms!

But I especially love caccoon-style hammocks, which can hang comfortably from trees over small bodies of water...scary, but cool!

Kids in 1952 and 1960

This morning I came across these super-cool class photos, which were taken in 1952, when the kids first began school and in 1960, when the much older kids became teenagers. Each photo represents the same group of students at equally pivotal times in American history. The first marks the first year of the Baby Boom era, while the second seems to teeter "on the edge of" the revolutionary 60s.

I've been trying to match up the younger children with their older selves. Can you match them all? Click here and here to view the full-size images. (Hint: A few of them look exactly the same and a couple of them are sitting in the same spot).

Neat huh?

First day of summer

Yippee!! Today is the first official day of summer!!  I can't wait to eat refreshing pasta salad (and sip on grapefruit lemonade!), spend afternoons roller-skating in the park, and wear breezy maxi skirts and sundresses. Do you have any plans for the day? What about for the season?

Teak courtyard table

I love this teak table! It's perfect for sitting around with friends on a cool summer night, as you all snack on tasty lobster dip, and reminisce about summers past.

I'm on Twitter!

It's official. I've caved. Not sure how long this will last, but why not just give it a go?

Baking

Even though I'm terrible at cooking, I've recently taken a liking to baking and have discovered that I'm pretty good at it (so far my specialty is mini apple pies...yum!)! For recipe tips and ideas, I've been frequenting the 'Devour' section of the blog Merely Marie, and have found a ton of delicious treats that I want to try. First up is something easy, the banana bread, which I'll be baking today...wish me luck!

Do you like to bake?

Pencil tip carvings

This is a little project that I think Al would love to take on! Brazilian carpenter and house remodeler Dalton M. Ghetti taught himself how carve incredibly small figurines from the pencil lead of discarded pencils. And Ghetti is so dedicated to his hobby, that he carves these intricate sculptures without the use of a magnifying glass!

What would you wear on a spring date?

Picture this: After a long, rainy week, the sun has finally come out. You and your beau have decided to spend a beautiful spring afternoon together. So far you've planned to ride your bikes down to the park, where you'll have a picnic under the beautiful canopy of a cherry blossom tree. Then, later on, you'll both take a nap in a cozy hammock. What will you wear?

Above, a slouchy V-neck sweater, which you'll let casually slip off your shoulder.
A floral silk playsuit.

A comfy maxi dress with a ruffle that will mimic the blossoming flowers as they sway in the breeze.

A denim shirtdress and your favorite cork-wedge sandals.

A basic tank and white denim shorts.

Which outfit would you pick? (I'd love to have that maxi dress...the back is lovely!)

Modern 30s shoes

Check out these incredibly modern and forward-thinking shoes by esteemed French shoe designer Steven Armand. It's incredible to think that Armand had such an innovative outlook and design aesthetic when these heels were created in 1939! Can't you see these shoes gracing the pages of today's Vogue or Harper's Bazaar?

Face.lace

Now this is just brilliant. Super-talented makeup artist Phyllis Cohen, who is known for her impeccably detailed and innovative designs is the genius behind these non-fade, non-smudge, ready-to-wear makeup designs. They take just a few seconds to apply, and are just as easy to remove. Plus, they're re-wearable!

Would you wear one of these designs for, say, a masquerade party or an exciting night out?

P.S. A makeup tutorial utilizing one of the designs
